BillionToOne is a publicly traded Nasdaq company transforming healthcare through precision diagnostics in prenatal and cancer care. The company is building a world-class Commercial Data & Applied AI team and seeks a Senior AI Engineer I to design and implement AI and automation solutions that optimize operations across commercial, billing, and customer experience functions.
In this full-time hybrid role (2-3 days/week on-site in Menlo Park), you will build and deploy LLM-powered applications including retrieval systems, AI agents, workflow automation, and vector storage solutions that integrate with internal systems and data sources. You'll partner with cross-functional stakeholders in Sales, Marketing, Revenue Operations, Billing, Customer Experience, and IT to identify high-impact automation opportunities and define success metrics.
Key responsibilities include: building lightweight data pipelines and analytics to support AI applications and measure impact; owning projects end-to-end from prototyping through production deployment and monitoring; establishing best practices for prompt engineering, evaluation, and responsible AI use as the team scales; and developing internal training sessions on LLM fundamentals and AI-assisted development tools.
Required qualifications: 5+ years in software engineering, data science, or ML engineering; hands-on experience building applications with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.); strong Python proficiency with SQL and relational database experience; production systems deployment and maintenance experience; AWS familiarity; excellent communication skills translating business problems into technical solutions; and comfort with ambiguity in early-stage environments.
Nice-to-haves include entrepreneurial experience, retrieval architectures and vector database expertise, agent frameworks or workflow orchestration familiarity, traditional ML framework experience (scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow), and prior healthcare or regulated industry work.
