Anago is a 25+ year-old software company serving public sector organizations across the Netherlands and expanding internationally. The company helps public organizations plan better, prioritize effectively, and deploy capacity efficiently—enabling faster decisions, better resource use, and improved responses to societal challenges. Anago is now actively integrating AI into its products and seeking a Senior AI Engineer to lead this transformation.
In this role, you will have end-to-end responsibility for designing, building, and evolging Anago's AI platform. You will establish the technical foundation and governance framework for all AI, ML, and LLM solutions across the organization. Your work will directly shape how AI is adopted and deployed within Anago and toward its customers.
You will design and build business-critical AI systems used daily in production by public sector organizations. A core focus is ensuring security, governance, continuity, cost efficiency, and explainability—because AI functionality supporting decisions about people must be transparent, auditable, and reliable. You will provide technical leadership on AI adoption, showing strategic vision and guiding the organization's AI-first approach. This is primarily a hands-on engineering role focused on designing, building, rolling out, and managing production AI systems—not research.
You will work in a collaborative, impact-driven organization where substance and long-term value come first. You'll have significant freedom and responsibility, direct influence on product and technology strategy, and the opportunity to work on AI solutions with genuine social relevance alongside an ambitious, technically strong team.
The office is located near 's-Hertogenbosch central station, with flexible hybrid arrangements and full work-from-home support.
**Requirements:**
- University (WO) level education
- At least 7 years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years with AI, ML, or LLM solutions in production environments
- Demonstrable experience designing, building, and managing business-critical AI platforms or AI solutions at scale
- Experience with ML frameworks and MLOps tooling
- Experience with LLMOps tooling (e.g., LangFuse, LangSmith, LangChain)
- Hands-on experience with cloud-native infrastructure and deployment, preferably Azure
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and pipeline orchestration (e.g., Airflow)
- Strong programming skills (e.g., Python) and production environment experience
- Solid knowledge of software architecture, data structures, algorithms, API design, and distributed systems
- Strong software engineering foundation with attention to testability, maintainability, and code quality
- Experience with code reviews, automated testing, version control, and modern software development processes
- Strong English and Dutch communication skills (minimum B1)
- Ability to take ownership and feel responsible for production results
- Ability to translate technical complexity into practical solutions and clear choices
- Must live within a distance that makes being in the office at least 50% of the time practical and sustainable long-term
