Amplitude is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to advance its AI analytics platform, which serves over 4,700 customers including Atlassian, Burger King, NBCUniversal, and Square. The role is both visionary and hands-on, requiring engineers who can move fluidly between deep technical work and product judgment. You will ship high-impact AI features and products that transform how customers and internal teams work, from agentic workflows to embedded intelligence across the Amplitude platform. Key responsibilities include designing and building foundational infrastructure behind Amplitude's AI systems—orchestration, evaluation, retrieval, context management, and integrations with the broader product ecosystem. You'll identify high-leverage opportunities by deeply understanding user workflows, customer pain points, and emerging capabilities in the AI ecosystem. You will establish reusable patterns, primitives, and components that enable other engineers to build AI features confidently and consistently. Close collaboration with product, design, and customer-facing teams is essential, with a relentless focus on real usage and measurable outcomes. You'll also set technical direction for AI systems at Amplitude, making thoughtful build vs. buy decisions, shaping evaluation strategy, and influencing the long-term roadmap. Required experience includes 3+ years of software engineering with 2+ years building production LLM or applied AI systems. You should have experience designing and scaling AI products, platforms, or developer tools with real users and reliability constraints. Deep familiarity with the modern AI ecosystem—model APIs, agent frameworks, evals, retrieval, prompting, tool use—is essential. Strong product sense, systems thinking, and excellent communication skills across engineering, design, product, and go-to-market teams are critical. The ideal candidate demonstrates a leverage mindset, seeing AI as a way to reshape how teams and customers think and execute. You understand that AI is most powerful when grounded in real data, workflows, and decisions. You anticipate customer needs and lead with creative, forward-looking solutions. You favor fast iteration, usage-based validation, and continuous improvement. You consistently spot the highest-value opportunities, see across disparate tools and teams to create cohesive experiences, and can design and ship robust agentic workflows with strong context handling and orchestration.
