Salary: USD 166,000 - 220,000 / annual
Anduril Industries is a defense technology company transforming military capabilities through advanced autonomy, AI, computer vision, and sensor fusion. The Maritime Division develops autonomous maritime systems powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system for real-time command and control.
You will own the design and development of actuation and control hardware for a maritime autonomous vehicle operating across the full ocean depth envelope. Reporting to the Body Mechanical Lead, you will be responsible for designing actuators, control surfaces, and mechanisms that enable precise vehicle maneuvering in subsea environments.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning actuation and control surface mechanical design from concept through production
- Selecting, sizing, and qualifying actuators for subsea operation (electric, hydraulic, or pneumatic)
- Designing control surface mechanisms and linkages with detailed kinematics and load analysis
- Defining actuator interfaces with guidance, navigation, and control (GN&C) software systems
- Designing sealing and pressure compensation systems for subsea actuators
- Supporting prototype builds, bench testing, and at-sea validation campaigns
- Contributing to design-for-manufacturability (DFM) reviews and production handoff
- Traveling up to 25% to test sites and vendor facilities
You will leverage both technical expertise and leadership skills to set objectives, build cross-functional teams, and drive initiatives to completion. The role requires the ability to execute highly optimized multi-disciplinary projects in a fast-paced defense environment.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent; 5+ years of experience in actuator design, mechanism design, or marine equipment; experience with actuator selection and sizing; familiarity with sealing and pressure-rated component design; ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
Preferred qualifications include experience with subsea actuators, AUV/UUV control mechanisms, control surface design for underwater vehicles, actuator testing and qualification, and defense or maritime robotics.
