Focused Energy is building the future of clean energy through laser-driven inertial fusion, backed by a $240M Series A—the largest fully secured Series A in the global fusion industry. The company operates across Germany and the US, bringing together top scientific and engineering talent to unlock fusion power at commercial scale. As Senior Accounting Manager, you will own the technical accounting, close, and consolidation processes across Focused Energy's German and US entities. You will apply IFRS, US GAAP, and German GAAP requirements to deliver reliable financial results as the international business scales. Your responsibilities include: • Owning accounting across international entities, applying multiple GAAP standards to complex accounting questions and making well-supported decisions within your remit. • Leading monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, managing close calendars, account reconciliations, intercompany accounting, eliminations, and consolidation across Germany and the US. • Delivering accurate, timely financial statements and management reporting, explaining material movements and providing Finance leadership with clear insight into results. • Building and strengthening accounting policies, internal controls, and documentation to ensure records are complete, consistent, and audit-ready as the business scales. • Improving accounting systems reliability, optimizing data flows and reconciliations across NetSuite, NetAssets, Moss, and Ramp, and resolving issues before they affect the close. • Transforming recurring accounting work into scalable processes through automation and practical tools that reduce manual effort and improve accuracy. • Working directly with Finance and business stakeholders, communicating accounting decisions clearly, surfacing risks early, and resolving issues independently while appropriately escalating company-wide policy and audit-strategy decisions. The role combines hands-on delivery with process improvement, building the controls, documentation, and automation that help Finance and the wider business trust the numbers. REQUIREMENTS: • 7+ years of professional accounting experience, including significant hands-on ownership of accounting processes in an international, multi-entity environment. • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or comparable professional qualification. • Strong technical accounting knowledge across German GAAP, IFRS, and US GAAP. • Proven experience owning monthly, quarterly, and annual close, including reconciliations, intercompany accounting, consolidation, and financial reporting. • Ability to make sound accounting judgments independently and distinguish between entity-level decisions and matters requiring company-wide escalation. • Experience designing, documenting, and improving accounting workflows, internal controls, and audit-ready records. • Hands-on experience with an ERP such as Oracle NetSuite, or comparable system; willingness to work deeply in finance-system data flows. • Fluent in English and German, with ability to collaborate confidently across Germany and the US. • Hands-on, detail-oriented, and proactive working style with resilience to operate effectively in a changing startup environment. • Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical accounting topics to non-finance stakeholders.
