Salary: CAD 95,000 - 115,000 / annual
Xanadu is building quantum computers to solve some of the world's most challenging problems. We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Finance team, reporting to the Finance Manager. This role combines technical accounting expertise with operational excellence, supporting our research and development initiatives.
You will own inventory accounting, lifecycle management of long-term assets, and core accounting operations. Key responsibilities include:
• Lead end-to-end accounting for inventory and materials, including capitalization, usage tracking, and valuation under US GAAP
• Manage the full lifecycle of fixed assets, including capitalization of construction-in-progress (CIP), depreciation, disposals, and impairment analysis
• Partner with R&D, Purchasing, and Facilities teams to track equipment installations and ensure accurate classification and recording
• Own accounting operations for assigned areas during monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes; prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and roll-forward schedules
• Act as primary liaison for external auditors on inventory, fixed assets, and revenue/grant matters; ensure compliance with US GAAP and SOX control requirements
• Lead and optimize revenue recognition and grant accounting processes in accordance with US GAAP
• Prepare detailed journal entries and perform balance sheet reconciliations; conduct financial variance analysis across revenue, inventory, and capital investment portfolios
• Act as finance lead for government funding programs (e.g., SR&ED, SIF, FedDev); gather and compile technical and financial documentation to support funding claims
• Partner with department leaders to develop and manage the annual CAPEX budget; perform monthly variance analysis to support cash flow management
• Oversee invoice processing and coding for capital projects; ensure accurate OPEX vs. CAPEX classification
• Identify and implement process improvements and automation initiatives
• Support the Finance Manager on additional accounting initiatives and cross-functional projects
You are proactive, solutions-oriented, and highly collaborative, with the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while continuously improving processes and systems.
REQUIREMENTS:
Basic qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• CPA designation or actively working toward completion
• 2–4 years of progressive accounting experience in public accounting or industry
• Strong attention to detail with ability to perform in fast-paced environment
• Proven ability to take ownership and deliver consistent results
• Excellent communication and project management skills
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Preferred qualifications:
• Experience in high-growth, agile, or start-up environment
• Familiarity with public company reporting and SOX compliance frameworks
• Experience with ERP systems, particularly NetSuite
• Knowledge of Python and/or SQL
• Strong understanding of US GAAP
