Tailscale is seeking a Security Operations Engineer to join its distributed security team. The role focuses on protecting Tailscale's infrastructure and supporting the company's security posture across a fully remote organization.
Key responsibilities include managing device security across macOS, Linux, and Windows platforms, implementing Mobile Device Management (MDM) policies, and handling BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) programs. You'll manage patch and vulnerability workflows, troubleshoot OS-level issues, and support critical platforms including Google Workspace, Jira, and GitHub. The role involves designing and implementing process automation for self-service access provisioning and patching workflows, managing access controls through OIDC, SAML, and SCIM protocols, and developing data loss prevention strategies.
You'll also participate in tech-stack decision-making in coordination with Engineering Leadership to ensure alignment with company-wide IT standards. This is an individual contributor role requiring strong technical depth in security operations.
Required qualifications include prior experience in security-related or adjacent technical roles such as Identity and Access Management, Endpoint Security, Data Loss Prevention, Security Operations Center work, or IT Engineering/Operations. You should have solid knowledge of operating systems and security mechanisms, common networking protocols, and authentication/user management protocols. Hands-on experience with MDM products (Jamf, Kandji, Fleet, Intune) and Google Workspace security is expected. Nice-to-have skills include Jira workflow automation, application/infrastructure security experience, and scripting in Go, Python, or bash.
