Salary: USD 152,000 - 179,000 / annual
Blend is seeking a Security Engineering Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of a dedicated security engineering team responsible for protecting the company's product, platform, and software development lifecycle. The role combines people leadership with hands-on technical security work.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing and growing the security engineering team through coaching and mentorship
- Shaping the team's roadmap, hiring strategy, and technical execution
- Orchestrating red teaming capabilities and adversarial testing integration into the development pipeline
- Developing and shipping security frameworks, methods, and tooling across the organization
- Partnering with product, platform, and infrastructure teams to embed security throughout the SDLC
- Defining the company's approach to AI security, including LLM-backed features, agentic systems, and MCP servers
Required qualifications:
- Demonstrated web application penetration testing ability with proficiency in tools like Burp Suite or OWASP ZAP
- Ability to scope and execute security assessments and threat models against modern web stacks
- Strong secure coding capabilities in TypeScript/JavaScript and Go
- Fluency with Linux systems and tooling
- Practical experience with threat modeling using STRIDE methodology
- Familiarity with SAST/DAST tooling and risk reduction strategies
- General management ability and proactive leadership philosophy
- Ability to communicate security findings in ways that mobilize engineering teams
Valued experience:
- Background in financial services or other highly regulated industries
- Comfort making decisions at the intersection of compliance, regulatory obligations, and business mission
- Track record of leveling up both technical and collaborative capabilities in others
