SpaceX is hiring a Security Engineer to join the security operations Blue Team, building detection and response capabilities against sophisticated adversaries targeting the company's cutting-edge rocket and spacecraft technology. You will develop tooling and data delivery mechanisms for the security operations team to detect threat actors in mission-critical environments before they can disrupt SpaceX's operations. Key responsibilities include building and improving security detection mechanisms and automation frameworks that drive what the Security Operations Center detects; engaging with system and service owners to identify and prioritize detection gaps; investigating anomalous or suspicious behavior identified during detection engineering; and participating in adversary emulation activities to uncover detection gaps. Your output will focus on developing solutions to address visibility gaps while bolstering the resilience of internally developed tooling to ensure maximum uptime for threat detection. Work may involve creating automation workflows to reduce triage time for security detections, developing services to pull in new datasets or enrich existing ones, and helping the SOC respond to and address visibility gaps from incidents. Basic qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in security engineering, computer science, cybersecurity, engineering, math, or other STEM discipline (or 2+ years of professional experience in incident response, security operations, or security engineering in lieu of a degree), and experience with modern programming languages such as Python, Go, C++, or Rust. Preferred experience includes incident response or CSIRT team contributions; building ETL pipelines from diverse systems for threat detection optimization; supporting and managing services in Kubernetes environments; knowledge of SIEM systems and traditional SOC procedures; familiarity with Red Team and adversarial attack trends; and enterprise security controls knowledge for Windows, Linux, and macOS systems. The role requires full onsite presence in Redmond with ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed. Company offers comprehensive benefits including medical, vision, dental coverage, 401(k), stock options, paid vacation (3 weeks), 10+ paid holidays, disability and life insurance, paid parental leave, and company shuttles from select Seattle locations.
