As a Staff Detection and Response Engineer on Writer's security team, you will design and implement sophisticated detection systems protecting the company's AI infrastructure, training data, and model deployments against novel threats. This role combines hands-on security engineering with strategic threat intelligence to defend cutting-edge AI systems against evolving adversaries.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design detection strategies for AI-specific threats including prompt injection, model extraction, data poisoning, adversarial examples, and unauthorized access to training datasets across distributed infrastructure
- Build automated response playbooks and orchestration workflows that contain threats without human intervention, reducing mean time to response from hours to minutes
- Lead security incident response coordination across Cloud, AppSec, Enterprise, and AI Security teams during AI infrastructure compromises, conducting forensic investigations and drafting incident communications
- Proactively hunt for sophisticated threats across GPU clusters and training infrastructure by analyzing model outputs, reproducing vulnerabilities, and identifying visibility gaps
- Build detection-as-code frameworks with version control and automated deployment, onboarding telemetry from AI training and inference endpoints
- Collaborate cross-functionally as the operational security partner, translating threat research into production detections and enabling responsible AI development
- Maintain 24/7 on-call rotation for critical AI security incidents
Required qualifications:
- 3-5+ years in security operations, detection engineering, or incident response with proven track record stopping sophisticated attacks in production
- 3+ years securing AI/ML infrastructure, high-performance computing, or distributed systems at scale
- Strong programming skills in Python, KQL, SPL, or similar languages for building custom detection logic and automating response workflows
- Experience with SIEM platforms, detection technologies, and forensic investigation in complex distributed environments
- Self-directed execution mindset with track record securing high-value intellectual property and proactive threat hunting
