Warp is building an agentic development environment that evolved from reimagining the terminal into a full platform for dispatching AI agents to code, deploy, and debug production software. The company has two products: Warp (the agentic development environment) and Oz (an orchestration platform for running cloud agents in parallel). With over 750k active developers using the platform at companies including Docker, Ramp, Peloton, and over half of the Fortune 500, Warp is one of the fastest-growing startups in the AI development space, with revenue that grew 44x last year.
As the first dedicated Product Security Engineer, you will own the technical direction of product and application security at Warp. This is a rare opportunity to join at a pivotal growth moment and shape security strategy from the ground up. You'll operate as both a security expert and a product engineer, with roughly half your time spent on hands-on software engineering: designing and building security features, improving security architecture, and creating systems that make it easier for all engineers at Warp to build securely.
Key responsibilities include shaping Warp's product security strategy by identifying high-leverage security risks and opportunities as the product and enterprise business grow; designing and building security-critical product capabilities while working directly in the codebase alongside product engineers; making security scalable across engineering through secure-by-default architecture, reusable systems and tooling, threat modeling, and pragmatic guidance rather than gatekeeping; serving as Warp's product-security expert with customers, partnering with Product, Sales, and engineering leadership to understand enterprise requirements and communicate security posture credibly; leading application-security incident response from assessing vulnerabilities through customer communication and systemic follow-up; and developing Warp's approach to emerging AI and agent security risks including permissions, credentials, untrusted code execution, data boundaries, and isolation.
You must have 5+ years of software engineering experience with meaningful experience in product security, application security, or software security, ideally in a fast-paced startup environment. Strong software engineering fundamentals are essential—this is not primarily a security-review or advisory role. You need deep knowledge of application-security fundamentals including authentication and authorization, data protection, vulnerability classes, threat modeling, secure architecture, and incident response. Strong product judgment is critical: you can translate security risks and customer requirements into pragmatic product and engineering decisions rather than treating security as an end in itself. Organizational skills, attention to detail, clear communication across different audiences, and comfort with ambiguity and change are all important.
Nice-to-have qualifications include experience as an early security hire or member of a small product-security team at a developer-tool or enterprise SaaS company; experience working directly with enterprise customers, sales engineers, or customer security teams on security architecture and requirements; and experience securing AI or agentic systems, particularly around untrusted code execution, sandboxing/isolation, and secrets and credentials management.
