Salary: USD 105,000 - 123,000 / annual
Chainguard is seeking a Security Engineer to support engineering teams across Identity and Access Management (IAM), AI, and Cloud infrastructure. This is an earlier-career role designed for someone with strong IT administration and/or software development experience who is ready to grow into security. You'll report to the Director of Cyber Resiliency and work alongside senior engineers to learn modern security practices while directly contributing to protecting Chainguard's cloud, AI, and identity systems.
Key responsibilities include operating and sustaining Chainguard's technology platforms; implementing and maintaining access controls, identity policies, and authentication/authorization systems; supporting cloud infrastructure hardening and monitoring; assisting in securing AI/ML pipelines and agentic workflows; troubleshooting and automating systems; documenting processes and contributing to runbooks; and adapting to shifting priorities as the company evolves.
You should bring airtight IT administration skills and/or a software development background, with hands-on experience in at least one of: IAM, AI/ML infrastructure, or cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure). Security experience is a plus but not required—the company values strong fundamentals and genuine desire to grow into security. You'll need comfort with scripting, automation, and troubleshooting; outstanding interpersonal skills for cross-team collaboration; comfort with ambiguity and rapid change in a late-stage startup; and a team-first mentality focused on helping teammates succeed.
