Fortanix is seeking an experienced Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join its India team. The company is a leader in data-centric cybersecurity for hybrid multicloud environments, using advanced cryptography, encryption, and confidential AI solutions to help businesses protect sensitive data across clouds and devices.
In this role, you will own the test strategy for platform services, covering unit, integration, contract, end-to-end, and performance testing. You will design, build, and maintain automated test frameworks and suites, primarily in Rust, with Python or TypeScript as needed. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing comprehensive test plans and automated test suites for platform reliability
- Integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines while maintaining fast feedback loops and reducing flaky tests
- Building test environments and test data for distributed systems using containers, mocks, and service virtualization
- Writing API and contract tests for service-to-service communication (REST)
- Running and analyzing performance, load, and resilience tests, translating results into engineering actions
- Reviewing code and design documents to identify testability and quality risks early
- Investigating production incidents and defects to identify and close test coverage gaps
- Verifying fixes for security findings and adding regression coverage
- Mentoring engineers on testing practices and sharing tooling and patterns across teams
- Tracking quality metrics such as escaped defects, flakiness rate, pipeline duration, and coverage

REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years in software engineering or test automation, with at least 3 years as an SDET or similar role
- Strong programming skills in at least one systems or general-purpose language; Rust experience preferred (Go, C++ acceptable with willingness to learn Rust)
- Experience testing microservices and distributed systems in production
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins) and containers (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience with API testing and contract testing
- Working knowledge of performance testing tools (k6, Locust, Gatling)
- Ability to debug across service boundaries using logs, metrics, and traces
- Experience in security
