Lokal is a house of focused apps serving Tier-2/3+ India with local-language internet products across edutainment, jobs, matrimony, agri-consulting, and community. This role is for a Script Writer focused on short-form video content for GyanTV, Lokal's edutainment and skill-learning platform in regional languages.
You will write scripts for short-form learning and edutainment videos, developing strong hooks, narrative flow, pacing, and calls-to-action that drive viewer engagement and retention. Your work will span topics in Finance, Career, Business, English, AI, Social Media, and Government categories. You'll simplify complex topics into clear, conversational, and engaging scripts; develop episodic formats and content series; conduct research and fact-check information; and adapt scripts based on audience insights, language trends, and performance data.
You'll collaborate with creative and production teams to ensure scripts are production-friendly, use AI tools for research and ideation while maintaining originality and accuracy, and think from a performance perspective—creating content that makes viewers stop, watch, understand, and keep watching.
Lokal was founded in 2018 with the hypothesis that people in tier-2/3 towns would engage with meaningful local-language content. The company has since unbundled into a portfolio of focused apps and is backed by Y Combinator, Sony, Global Brain, India Quotient, and 3one4 Capital.
**Requirements:**
- Experience in short-form video writing, digital media, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, edutainment, or creator-led content
- Strong understanding of hooks, retention, pacing, storytelling, and audience engagement
- Strong research, fact-checking, and information-simplification skills
- Ability to write conversational and engaging scripts rather than traditional articles or blogs
- Native or strong proficiency in Kannada language
- Good understanding of how written scripts translate into visual and video storytelling
- Comfortable using AI tools for content research, ideation, and refinement
- Strong creative judgment, attention to detail, and ownership
