Conception is pioneering reproductive biology by generating functional human eggs from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). The company integrates stem cell biology, developmental biology, reproductive biology, genomics, and engineering to solve previously unsolved problems in reproductive medicine.
This is a hands-on bench-heavy scientist role requiring deep expertise in pluripotent stem cells. You will independently own technically complex workflows: designing experiments, executing them carefully, troubleshooting failures, interpreting data, and determining next steps. The role emphasizes systematic protocol improvement rather than rote execution.
Key responsibilities include building and advancing pluripotent stem cell systems central to developing stem-cell-derived reproductive cells, developing and optimizing approaches for PSC derivation and differentiation, designing experiments to understand drivers of successful differentiation and cell quality, building molecular and epigenetic readouts to characterize cell identity and function, and using experimental and computational data to identify what is working, failing, and worth trying next.
Required qualifications: PhD or equivalent industry experience in stem cell biology, developmental biology, reproductive biology, cell biology, bioengineering, or related field. Strong hands-on pluripotent stem cell experience is essential, ideally with human and/or nonhuman primate iPSCs or ESCs. Demonstrated experience with PSC derivation, line establishment, culture, differentiation, and characterization. Proven ability to independently design, execute, troubleshoot, and interpret experiments. Experience analyzing transcriptomic and epigenetic sequencing data (bulk and/or single-cell) is highly desirable. Excellent experimental judgment and attention to detail required.
The company is well-funded and well-connected in Silicon Valley, offering competitive pay, company equity, excellent healthcare benefits, and a collaborative research environment focused on meaningful results.
