Vir Biotechnology is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering and developing medicines for serious infectious diseases and cancer. The company has exclusive rights to the PRO-XTEN® masking platform for oncology and infectious disease, with a clinical portfolio including programs for chronic hepatitis delta and dual-masked T-cell engagers across validated solid tumor targets.
You will join the Translational Development team as a Bioanalytical Scientist, developing and implementing bioanalytical methods to support large-molecule programs at both preclinical and clinical stages. This is a hands-on technical role with cross-functional collaboration.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and optimize bioanalytical methods for large-molecule preclinical and clinical candidates, providing bioanalytical input across R&D stages
- Design and execute immunochemistry assays (ELISA, MSD, anti-drug antibody assays) and prepare samples for LC-MS/MS analysis
- Plan and coordinate method development and sample analysis activities aligned with program timelines
- Troubleshoot and evaluate complex bioanalytical methods to identify and implement robust solutions
- Prepare and characterize assay reagents using standard biochemical techniques (protein conjugation, concentration determination, UV/Vis spectrophotometry)
- Maintain thorough documentation in electronic lab notebooks; compile, analyze, and interpret data
- Present experimental plans and results in group and cross-functional settings
- Perform routine instrument maintenance, calibrations, and performance checks
- Collaborate with assay development team members to achieve project goals
The position is based at the San Francisco headquarters with an expectation of at least 4 days per week on site.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- PhD with 1+ years of relevant industry experience, OR MS with 6+ years, OR BS with 8+ years
- Experience combining hands-on laboratory work with project oversight; prior experience managing CROs for clinical and nonclinical assay development/validation is a plus
- Demonstrated understanding of GLP/GCP principles as they pertain to sample handling and storage, bioanalytical assay development, sample analysis, and laboratory operations
- Strong technical expertise with platforms used to characterize large-molecule therapeutics, including assays with complex handling and preparation (enzymatic, ligand-binding, cell-based assays, LC-MS/MS assays) across biological matrices (serum, plasma)
- Familiarity with PK/PD concepts and their application to assay design, selection, and range determination
- Prior work in GCP/GLP/GMP environments is advantageous but not required
- Prior work utilizing LC/MS/MS is advantageous but not required
- Must be currently authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.
