Aspen Neuroscience is seeking a Scientist I, Microglia to join their cell therapy development team in Torrey Pines, San Diego. In this role, you will design and execute scientific experiments supporting the advancement of iPSC-derived microglia and other cell therapy programs. You'll work independently with guidance to plan experiments, analyze data, troubleshoot technical challenges, and contribute to technical documentation and scientific publications.
Key responsibilities include leading the development and optimization of iPSC-derived microglia differentiation processes, executing both in vitro and in vivo studies to evaluate cellular phenotype, function, engraftment, and therapeutic activity. You will collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to support product release, stability, and characterization. The role involves managing external academic collaborations and contract research activities, including study design, execution, data review, and stakeholder communication. You may also supervise and train Research Associates and contribute to corporate strategy through evaluation of new therapeutic areas and emerging technologies.
Required qualifications include a PhD in biology, neuroscience, or related discipline, plus minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in molecular or cellular research. You must be proficient in aseptic cell culture with experience in hESCs or hiPSCs, and competent in designing gene editing experiments. Strongly preferred experience includes iPSCs, microglia, in vivo disease modeling, gene editing, bioinformatics, flow cytometry, qRT-PCR, RNAseq, IHC, live cell imaging, and preclinical animal studies.
This is an on-site position requiring flexibility for weekend and holiday work as needed. Relocation assistance is not available. The role involves exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals with appropriate training and protective gear provided. You must have valid work authorization without requiring employer sponsorship.
