Korro Bio is a biopharmaceutical company developing a new class of genetic medicines using a proprietary RNA editing platform. The company focuses on creating precise, transient single-base RNA edits to treat both rare and highly prevalent diseases, leveraging oligonucleotide-based approaches with established regulatory pathways.
You will join the biology group as a Scientist I, working in a lab-based role on functional cell-based assays to validate novel targets and demonstrate pharmacological activity in liver-relevant disease contexts. This is an individual contributor position with significant hands-on responsibility and opportunity to mentor junior team members.
Key responsibilities include:
- Independently design, develop, and execute functional cell-based assays for target validation, mechanism of action studies, and pharmacological activity demonstration
- Establish and maintain primary hepatocyte cultures, iPSC-derived hepatocytes, and complex co-culture systems
- Collaborate with the in vivo pharmacology team to design ex vivo assays characterizing pharmacodynamic effects, target engagement, pathway modulation, and biomarker readouts
- Analyze complex datasets from multiple sources, draw conclusions, and maintain detailed lab records via Electronic Lab Notebook
- Support operations team in troubleshooting, equipment maintenance, and CRO management
- Serve as a key biology contributor at the program team level, presenting data and findings to cross-functional teams and leadership
- Work effectively with platform, data science, high-throughput screening, in vivo pharmacology, and DMPK teams
- Guide and mentor junior team members in experimental planning and execution
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cell and molecular biology with demonstrated independence in assay development and problem-solving. You will work in a collaborative, fast-paced biotech environment focused on transformative genetic medicine development.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Ph.D. in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or related field; OR M.S. with 6–9+ years of relevant experience
- Demonstrated hands-on expertise in mammalian cell culture, including primary cells, iPSCs, co-culture models, and stable cell line engineering
- Proficiency in standard cell biology and molecular biology techniques (Western blot, ELISA, DNA/RNA extraction, RT-qPCR, immunofluorescence, flow cytometry)
- Strong analytical skills with ability to critically evaluate complex biology problems and translate findings into clear recommendations
- Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with rigorous attention to detail and high-quality data delivery within established timelines
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to convey complex scientific concepts to matrixed teams
PREFERRED:
- Experience with liver biology, liver disease models, or metabolic diseases
- Experience with oligonucleotide therapeutics
