Salary: USD 116,500 - 146,500 / annual
Vir Biotechnology is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing medicines for serious infectious diseases and cancer, with a focus on immune system activation. The company's portfolio includes programs for chronic hepatitis delta and dual-masked T-cell engagers (TCE platform) across validated oncology targets, plus preclinical programs in infectious disease and oncology.
In this role, you will report to the Director of Analytical Development Bioassays and be responsible for developing, optimizing, and qualifying cell-based and binding bioassays to interrogate mechanism of action for antibody and biologic therapeutics, including the TCE platform. You will execute cell-based activity and binding assays for characterization testing supporting critical reagent characterization, process and formulation development, comparability studies, and structure-activity relationship investigations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop, optimize, and qualify cell-based and binding bioassays
- Introduce new assay modalities and technologies to the group as needed
- Prepare assay standards, controls, and critical reagents; ensure system suitability criteria are met
- Perform characterization testing including binding ELISAs, activity/cytotoxicity assays, and effector function assays to support structure-function studies, forced degradation studies, and BLA-enabling process/formulation development
- Troubleshoot method-related issues internally and at external laboratories
- Author study protocols, development/qualification reports, and test methods; summarize and verify data for regulatory filings
- Serve as subject matter expert for bioassays within Tech Ops and the broader CMC organization
- Design and conduct laboratory experiments independently and collaboratively
This is a full-time, in-office position based at Vir Biotechnology's San Francisco headquarters with an expectation of at least 5 days per week on-site.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of industry experience, OR Master's degree with 6+ years of industry experience, OR PhD with no industry experience required
- Experience in bioassay method development, transfer, and qualification
- Experience in bioassay data analysis including parallel line analysis and statistical methods for evaluating method performance
- Ability to execute laboratory experiments both independently and with team members
- Strong troubleshooting skills for method-related issues
- Experience managing multiple projects with ability to adjust quickly to priority changes
- Must be currently authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship not available
