NewLimit is a biotechnology company focused on extending human healthspan by developing medicines that reprogram the epigenome to restore youthful cellular function. The company has built leading experimental and AI systems to discover reprogramming medicines at scale, with initial products targeting metabolic, endothelial, and immune function restoration. As a Scientist in Delivery Sciences Lipid Chemistry, you will own the design, synthesis, and characterization of ionizable lipids, PEG-lipid conjugates, and peptide/antibody conjugates to advance NewLimit's targeted lipid nanoparticle (tLNP) platform. The role focuses on delivering nucleic acid payloads to target cells and tissues beyond the liver—a key challenge in gene therapy. Key responsibilities include: - Design new ionizable lipids and lipid conjugates across multiple structural families, pushing beyond current-generation materials - Execute practical synthetic routes aligned with pipeline needs and project timelines - Plan synthesis and purification with scale and final purity as primary considerations - Build ionizable and targeting lipids using SAR-driven approaches to guide iterative design cycles - Develop conjugation chemistry linking peptides, antibodies, nanobodies, and small-molecule ligands to lipid anchors for cell- and tissue-selective delivery - Translate in vitro and in vivo discovery data into structural hypotheses and refined molecules - Present synthetic strategies, experimental results, and SAR conclusions through protocols and technical reports This is a hands-on bench role with real ownership of lipid design, working closely with Delivery Sciences and biology teams. You will be personally responsible for synthesis and characterization rather than directing others' work. Required qualifications: PhD in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, or related field plus 1–2 years of relevant experience, OR MS with 5+ years of focused lipid design for liposomal or LNP applications. Strong expertise in lipid design and synthesis, SAR-driven approaches, ionizable lipid and PEG-lipid conjugate chemistry, conjugation chemistries for targeting moieties, purification (normal/reverse-phase chromatography, preparative HPLC), and analytical characterization (LC-CAD, LC-UV, LC-MS/MS, NMR). Familiarity with lipid degradation pathways, solid-phase peptide synthesis, antibody modification, scale-up/CMC/tech transfer, and data visualization tools (R, Python, JMP) are valued.
