Precision for Medicine seeks a Sample Processing Team Lead to provide technical leadership and operational coordination within a sample processing laboratory. This role combines hands-on laboratory work with team leadership responsibilities, ensuring accurate handling, processing, documentation, cryopreservation, and storage of biological specimens in compliance with quality and study requirements.
Key responsibilities include performing complex biological sample processing activities such as cell isolations, blood and body fluid component separation, and cryopreservation/thawing of cells. You will manage sample accession into systems, update batch records, and maintain laboratory reagents and equipment inventories. The role involves monitoring preventive maintenance schedules and coordinating equipment maintenance activities.
Leadership duties include training laboratory personnel on procedures and protocols, conducting competency assessments (upon approval), assigning daily workloads based on staffing and priorities, and providing technical guidance to team members. You will serve as an operational resource during supervisor absences, assisting with employee and operational issue management.
Quality and compliance responsibilities are substantial: you will review and implement controlled documents and SOPs, perform sample data reviews and investigate discrepancies, conduct spot checks for QMS compliance, lead or assist with quality event investigations and corrective actions, and coordinate discrepancy resolutions. Data management includes maintaining accurate real-time documentation, analyzing laboratory reports for errors, and monitoring sample turnaround times.
The role emphasizes continuous improvement and problem-solving, applying scientific expertise to solve routine and complex laboratory problems, evaluating new technologies and processes, and collaborating with management and project teams to enhance operations and quality.
Minimum qualifications: Associate's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or Life Sciences (or equivalent education/experience) and 4 years of relevant laboratory experience. Required skills include independent work capability, aseptic technique training, Excel proficiency, excellent attention to detail, strong documentation skills, and ability to work effectively in team environments while remaining flexible and responsive to changing priorities.
