Sent is an infrastructure platform for sending A2P (application-to-person) messages across SMS, WhatsApp, and RCS through a single unified API. The company recently closed a $12M Series A and is building the best infrastructure to replace fragmented multi-channel messaging stacks. You will be Sent's first Sales Engineer, working directly alongside the VP of Sales to own the technical side of every deal. This is a ground-floor hire with significant opportunity to shape the function from scratch. Key Responsibilities: - Run live product demos and technical deep-dives for developer and product audiences - Build proof-of-concept integrations during or between prospect calls to unblock deals - Translate Sent's API capabilities into concrete solutions for prospect-specific messaging workflows (transactional SMS, WhatsApp conversational flows, OTP delivery, marketing campaigns) - Create and maintain demo environments, sample apps, and integration guides to accelerate the sales cycle - Write technical content supporting the deal cycle: solution briefs, architecture diagrams, competitive comparisons, integration playbooks - Partner with engineering and product to relay prospect feedback, feature gaps, DX friction, and competitive intelligence - Support RFP/RFI responses and security questionnaires - Help define the Sales Engineer function from scratch: build playbooks, tooling, and processes that scale as the company grows You are someone who comes from the messaging or communications infrastructure industry with an engineering or customer success background, but genuinely enjoys conversations with people. You might be a software engineer who keeps getting pulled into customer calls, a solutions engineer ready for something more entrepreneurial, or a technical support engineer ready for something more strategic. Requirements: - 5+ years of experience with a foundation in software engineering, computer science, or a related technical field; you've written real code - Comfort working with APIs, webhooks, and at least one programming language (Python, Node.js, etc.); you can read documentation and build a working integration independently - Natural pull toward people: you volunteer for customer calls, write clear explanations, and enjoy demoing - High agency: you move without waiting for a playbook, figure things out, ask good questions, and close loops without being managed - Strong written and verbal communication: you can write technical documentation as easily as you can walk a prospect through architecture decisions - Genuine curiosity about how messaging infrastructure works - Bias toward action and learning: you'd rather ship something imperfect and iterate than wait for perfect information - Must live in NYC or be willing to relocate Nice to Have: - Contributions to open-source projects, developer communities, or technical content (blogs, tutorials, videos) - Experience in customer-facing technical roles: support engineering, developer advocacy, technical consulting, or solutions architecture
