As a Sales Development Representative on the Automotive team, you will be the first point of contact for new-car dealerships and dealer groups, playing a critical role in driving growth within the automotive vertical. This is a research-driven role where you will map dealer group structures, identify the right accounts and timing, and open strategic, executive-level conversations that lead to qualified product demonstrations for Account Executives.
You will work closely with Account Executives and Customer Success Managers to understand account context, existing integrations, and dealership operations, ensuring every conversation is informed, credible, and well-timed. Many of Podium's top-performing Account Executives started as SDRs on the Auto team, providing a clear pathway for career progression.
Key responsibilities include:
- Research dealer groups and organizational structures to identify the right accounts, stakeholders, and engagement timing
- Prepare thoroughly before every call, understanding dealership situations, existing systems, and pain points
- Initiate and hold strategic, executive-level conversations with dealer principals, GMs, and decision-makers
- Build interest by understanding prospect challenges and educating them on Podium's value
- Qualify opportunities using a consultative sales approach and schedule high-quality product demonstrations
- Partner closely with Account Executives and Customer Success Managers for seamless handovers
- Maintain accurate records and pipeline activity in Salesforce
- Consistently meet monthly targets for qualified meetings and pipeline generation, prioritizing quality and fit
Requirements:
- Strong understanding of the automotive industry, ideally from a dealership, automotive IT provider, or related automotive technology business
- Mature, professional, and polished communication style with strong phone presence and ability to hold credible conversations
- High autonomy and ability to take ownership of tasks or territories without constant direction
- Coachability and initiative with demonstrated ability to apply feedback quickly
- Comfort with thorough preparation and research before contact; patience with coordination and internal checks
- Persistence balanced with patience; this role rewards thoroughness over speed
- Growth mindset and ambition to progress into an Account Executive role
- Experience selling into or working with dealerships is highly desirable; previous SDR or outbound sales experience is a bonus but not essential
- Full-time Australian working rights on an ongoing basis required
