Rocket Lab is seeking a Safety & Mission Assurance Engineer II to support launch safety regulatory compliance for their space launch operations. This role sits at the heart of mission success, bridging engineering teams and regulatory requirements. Key responsibilities include: project managing mission submissions by coordinating inputs across teams to produce accurate regulatory documentation delivered on schedule; reviewing Flight Safety System (FSS) safety-critical component test reports, flagging out-of-family components, and managing FSS system summaries and regulator communications; preparing and submitting payload permit applications for Rocket Lab payloads; producing Payload Safety Assessments for low-hazard payloads and managing mission-specific payload hazards with operational teams; ensuring new spacecraft programs meet orbital debris reduction requirements; training to fulfill the Launch Safety Official role during launch operations to monitor regulatory compliance; and performing internal audits, monitoring compliance across business operations, ensuring timely annual report submissions, and maintaining accuracy during change management. Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline; 4+ years of experience in an engineering role with focus on regulatory compliance, requirements, or safety; knowledge of quality management systems; and excellent project management, communication, and technical writing skills. Desirable qualifications include knowledge of space systems and operations regulations/standards, experience with safety management systems and standards, ability to read and comprehend new standards and regulations, and understanding of engineering development and production processes. This is a hands-on role requiring both technical depth and regulatory acumen, working in a fast-paced aerospace environment where safety and compliance are mission-critical.
