Salary: USD 104,600 - 135,000 / annual
Archer Technologies is an aerospace company building all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft designed to carry four passengers with minimal noise. As a Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring safe operation, integration, and compliance of powertrain systems and associated equipment throughout the aircraft development lifecycle.
Your primary responsibilities include conducting comprehensive risk assessments and safety analyses using methodologies such as FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), HAZOP (Hazard and Operability), and FTA (Fault Tree Analysis) on powertrain systems and test equipment. You will develop and implement safety standards, policies, and procedures in accordance with applicable regulations including OSHA, ISO 26262, and ISO 13849.
You will collaborate closely with design, validation, and manufacturing teams to embed safety considerations across all stages of equipment lifecycle. This includes reviewing mechanical, electrical, and software designs for safety compliance, leading incident investigations and root cause analyses, and specifying/validating safety systems such as emergency stop systems, interlocks, and guarding.
Additional responsibilities encompass supporting equipment commissioning, maintenance planning, and safety audits; documenting safety protocols; creating comprehensive reports; and providing training to engineering and operations teams.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Safety Engineering (or related field), plus 3+ years of experience in a safety engineering role, preferably with powertrain systems focus. You must have knowledge of functional safety standards (ISO 26262, IEC 61508) and experience with industrial equipment, safety controls, and risk mitigation techniques. Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and team collaboration abilities are essential.
Bonus qualifications include CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification, experience with powertrain equipment testing and validation, familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles, and knowledge of EHS regulations related to manufacturing processes.
