GrayMatter Robotics is a well-capitalized Physical AI company building Factory SuperIntelligence (FSI) through autonomous robotic systems for manufacturing. The company delivers robots-as-a-service (RaaS) solutions that adapt to real-world geometries, materials, and process variation without reprogramming, enabling manufacturers to automate tedious, hazardous, and ergonomically demanding work.
The Robotics Software Engineer for Government Projects will lead implementation, deployment, and support of innovative robotic manufacturing systems for government customers, working at the intersection of R&D feature development and hands-on delivery for proof-of-concept and pilot demonstrations.
Key responsibilities include: developing and implementing algorithms, systems, and architecture for high-DOF robotic systems in manufacturing environments; partnering with Systems and Applications Engineers to define software requirements for non-standard and R&D projects; executing proof-of-concept projects demonstrating GMR's robotic capabilities; staying current with robotics and AI research; testing and evaluating state-of-the-art algorithms for planning, learning, perception, and control; collaborating with the Robotics Software team to maintain coding best practices; maintaining software features and versioning for systems deployed to government facilities; rapidly iterating on the software stack; prototyping new inspection sensors, tools, and processes with sensor vendors; and partnering with GMR engineers to prototype new ideas and methods.
Minimum qualifications: Master's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; 2+ years of industry experience developing, implementing, and testing algorithms for planning/learning/perception/control; software development for complex function-based systems with sensor inputs, control loops, and redundancy; production-level proficiency in C++ and Python; proficiency with ROS2 and robotics-relevant open-source libraries; excellent technical and analytical skills.
Preferred qualifications: 4+ years deploying complex robotics systems in production; R&D robotics experience; experience with robot sensors (LiDARs, stereo/depth cameras); 6DOF robot arm experience; familiarity with state-of-the-art robotics algorithms (e.g., VLA).
