Helsing is a defence AI company on a mission to protect democracies through technological leadership. You will join a multidisciplinary team in Barcelona building reliable, observable, and debuggable robotics systems. As the primary owner of firmware across robotics platforms, you will operate at the boundary between hardware and software, guiding architecture decisions from concept through validation and long-term maintenance. You'll collaborate closely with electrical, controls, motion planning, and systems engineers to deliver cohesive, high-performing systems. Day-to-day responsibilities include: - Design, implement, and maintain embedded firmware for real-time robotics systems covering control, sensing, and system health monitoring - Own the complete firmware lifecycle from architecture and implementation through testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance - Diagnose and resolve complex system-level issues using oscilloscopes, logic analysers, and DMMs to identify root causes across timing, signalling, and electrical faults - Serve as the technical bridge between hardware and software teams - Advise leadership on firmware strategy and technical direction Required qualifications: - Production-grade embedded firmware experience for real-time systems with deep MCU knowledge - Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded targets and experience with communication protocols (CANOpenFD, UART, I2C, or equivalent) - Hands-on experience with hardware debugging tools - Full end-to-end firmware ownership from architecture through validation and maintenance - Fluent English and Spanish for effective multilingual collaboration Nice-to-have skills include motor control, power stage firmware, embedded communications in robotics/industrial automation, and familiarity with Linux, Docker, or CI/CD pipelines.
