Helsing is a defence AI company focused on protecting democracies through technological leadership and ethical AI development. This role bridges prototype engineering and production reality for Helsing's robotics portfolio, based in Barcelona.
You will lead the transition from prototype to production-ready designs, applying Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles across CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, injection moulding, and additive manufacturing. You'll develop and optimize manufacturing processes, work instructions, bills of materials, and assembly procedures to scale robotic systems from low volume to repeatable, high-quality output.
Key responsibilities include specifying and procuring fixturing, tooling, and manufacturing equipment; collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and quality teams to surface and resolve manufacturing issues early in the design cycle; and driving improvement initiatives across efficiency, quality, and cost reduction using production data to inform design iteration.
You should have a verifiable track record of delivering manufacturing processes for complex mechanical or electromechanical products, taking designs from prototype through to scalable production in high-mix, low-to-medium volume environments. Deep technical knowledge of DFM/DFA across multiple manufacturing methods is essential, along with proficiency in 3D CAD (ideally SolidWorks) and production-grade documentation standards. Experience specifying manufacturing equipment and building production infrastructure is required. Strong cross-functional communication skills are critical for resolving manufacturing challenges with precision across design, electrical, production, quality, and testing teams.
