Fluidstack is building civilization-scale compute infrastructure for AI at unprecedented speed and scale. The company acquires power, designs and builds data centers, and operates them across hardware and software teams. The Modular team manufactures modular data center units as production-line products—engineered, built, tested, and shipped ready to deploy.
As Resident Mechanical Engineer, you will own the mechanical systems (cooling, piping, airflow) of the modular product from released drawings through rate production. This is a hands-on role based on the Phoenix manufacturing floor.
Key responsibilities:
- Own mechanical systems engineering for modular data center units on the production line
- Work daily on the manufacturing floor, identifying and dispositioning piping and assembly issues at the station where they occur
- Conduct first-article reviews, fit checks, and pressure tests in person as units come down the line
- Answer mechanical RFIs same-day from the floor and engineer fixes into the next design revision
- Close the feedback loop between factory floor and design: feed production learnings back into drawings, tolerances, and BOMs to prevent recurring issues
- Ensure drawings build clean and fabricators rarely need to call with questions
You should have hands-on experience engineering mechanical systems for complex physical products or modular construction (not desk-based). You've worked on shop floors or production lines, dispositioning nonconformances in real time. You've supported production launches of your own designs and stayed through rate-production problems. You run first-article builds and pressure tests personally, trace failures to root cause in drawings or process, and iterate fast without losing configuration control. Bonus experience: liquid cooling, piping and pressure testing, sheet metal design, or strong design-for-manufacturability instincts.
