Altos Labs is seeking a Research Specialist I to join the In Vivo Translational Operations (IVTS) team within Drug Discovery and Development. The role focuses on supporting the progression of therapeutic programs by conducting and optimizing in vivo research activities and executing preclinical studies in rodent models. Key responsibilities include planning, executing, and managing in vivo studies in mice and rats, including protocol development, dosing, tissue collection, study monitoring, biosample management, and data analysis. The specialist will conduct survival surgeries to establish various rodent models using aseptic techniques and collaborate on developing, characterizing, and implementing new animal models to improve pharmacology study effectiveness. The role requires providing critical input on project-specific approaches, adapting techniques to incorporate emerging technologies and best practices, and maintaining detailed documentation in electronic lab notebooks to ensure data integrity. The specialist will enhance lab efficiency through workflow development and innovative experimental strategies, collaborate with cross-functional teams across multiple departments, and ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and ethical standards in animal research. Required qualifications include a Master's degree in life sciences or related field, or a BA/BS with 8+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience. Candidates must have broad expertise with all aspects of in vivo rodent research, including various dosing routes, anesthesia, surgical procedures, necropsy, and tissue processing. A 3Rs-centered, welfare-oriented approach to animal research is essential, along with strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration, exceptional organizational abilities, and problem-solving capabilities. Preferred qualifications include experience across diverse therapeutic modalities (small molecules, biotherapeutics, nucleic acid therapeutics, gene therapy) and experience analyzing age-related diseases in animal models such as inflammation, metabolic disorders, neurodegeneration, muscle atrophy, bone loss, and joint deficits.
