Iambic Therapeutics, a clinical-stage biotech company founded in 2020, is seeking a Research Scientist to develop and advance small-molecule purification and analytical capabilities within its AI-driven drug discovery platform. Based in San Diego, this role bridges chemistry and automation, supporting the company's mission to deliver novel medicines through innovative discovery technologies. The scientist will lead method development and optimization for preparative supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) and liquid chromatography (LC) purification, with emphasis on solving challenging separations through optimization of stationary/mobile phases, gradients, and scale-up strategies. A core responsibility is developing high-throughput compound quality control workflows using LC/MS and related analytical techniques to assess compound identity, purity, and sample quality. Key responsibilities include: independently developing purification strategies for small molecules; collaborating with medicinal chemistry and high-throughput experimentation (HTE) teams to establish fit-for-purpose workflows; serving as a technical resource for SFC/LC troubleshooting, including root-cause analysis of chromatography, fluidics, hardware, and software issues; providing hands-on support for SFC, LC, and LC/MS platforms including maintenance and optimization; developing automated and high-throughput purification workflows integrating sample handling, fraction processing, and data management; and evaluating new chromatography, automation, and informatics technologies to improve throughput and efficiency. The ideal candidate combines strong fundamentals in chromatographic separation science with hands-on expertise in analytical QC, instrument troubleshooting, automation, and high-throughput workflows. This position requires a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or related field with 0–5 years of relevant experience (or MS with 7+ years, or BS with 9+ years). Essential qualifications include demonstrated expertise in preparative SFC method development and troubleshooting, strong understanding of separation science, ability to independently solve complex purification problems, strong instrument troubleshooting skills, and understanding of medicinal chemistry and small-molecule drug discovery. Experience with high-throughput LC/MS analysis, automation, high-throughput workflows, informatics/data-management systems, and platforms like Agilent or Shimadzu is highly desirable. Iambic offers competitive pay, company-paid healthcare, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, 401K matching, uncapped vacation, and a state-of-the-art facility in San Diego with onsite gym and dining.
