Iambic Therapeutics, a clinical-stage biotech company founded in 2020, is seeking a Research Scientist I/II with strong immunology expertise to join the Biology group and support small-molecule drug discovery. Based in San Diego, this hands-on role focuses on designing and executing in vitro and ex vivo studies to generate high-quality data for target validation, hit-to-lead, lead optimization, and development candidate selection. Key responsibilities include designing, developing, and optimizing assays using disease-relevant immune cells and tissues (primary human cells, whole blood, cell lines, tissue-derived systems) to measure potency, selectivity, target engagement, mechanism of action, and functional immune responses. You will run recurring compound-profiling assays and generate reproducible data to support medicinal chemistry design-make-test-analyze cycles. The role requires applying quantitative pharmacology and rigorous data-quality practices to analyze concentration-response relationships and assay performance. You will maintain accurate electronic laboratory records and protocols, communicate results and technical risks at biology and project-team meetings, and support in vivo immunology studies by contributing to experimental plans, processing samples, conducting ex vivo analyses, and interpreting PK/PD and biomarker data. Additional responsibilities include supporting assay transfer to CROs or collaborators, executing bridging work, and contributing to laboratory operations and method documentation. Required qualifications include a PhD in immunology or related field with 0–4 years of relevant experience, or an MS with 7+ years, or BS with 9+ years. Strong knowledge of innate and/or adaptive immunology, immune-cell signaling, and disease mechanisms is essential. Hands-on experience designing in vitro and ex vivo immunology studies using primary immune cells, whole blood, or tissue systems is required, with proficiency in multiparameter flow cytometry and cytokine/chemokine assays. Experience developing and troubleshooting robust cell-based assay cascades, supporting small-molecule discovery, and working knowledge of in vivo immunology and pharmacology are preferred. The ideal candidate demonstrates scientific rigor, sound experimental judgment, strong organization and communication skills, and enthusiasm for collaborative, bench-focused work.
