Insignum AgTech is seeking a Plant Molecular Biologist Research Scientist to join the Plant Biotechnology Research team. The company develops novel crop traits using plant DNA that enable visual stress detection—plants change color when facing disease, insect pests, or nutrient deficiencies. This allows farmers to optimize production with targeted, in-season management strategies.
The successful candidate will design and conduct plant gene editing experiments, including cloning, vector design, and construction. Responsibilities include performing genomic sequencing experiments and analysis, transforming plants, handling plant tissue cultures, and communicating results to internal and external stakeholders. The role involves occasional fieldwork to analyze plant phenotypes and participate in field experiments.
This is a senior individual contributor role with mentoring responsibilities. You will supervise junior staff members such as technicians and interns, write manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and patent applications, and contribute to grant applications. Collaboration with team members on continuous improvement is essential, as is maintaining a safe laboratory environment.
The ideal candidate holds a Ph.D. in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Plant Sciences, Microbiology, or a related field, with demonstrated experience in plant gene editing. Proficiency with in-silico tools (Geneious, SnapGene) and strength in delivering molecular biological results (DNA and gene expression work) are required. You must be self-motivated, able to work independently and collaboratively, and possess strong organizational and communication skills.
Preferred qualifications include expertise in advanced molecular biology techniques, hands-on experience with Agrobacterium as a vector, familiarity with plant physiology, and proven ability to manage and maintain laboratory instruments. Legal authorization to work in the US is required.
