Mistral is hiring a Research Operations Manager to build and operate the shared systems that enable the science organization to move fast at scale. This role sits at the platform layer of Science Ops, owning the compute, data, access, vendor, and tooling systems that serve every research team.
You will design and operate the operational infrastructure underneath research—automating manual processes, building internal tools and dashboards, and ensuring researchers focus on science rather than infrastructure overhead. Key responsibilities include:
• Building and operating shared infrastructure for research (resource systems, data systems, tooling, observability) that enables science to scale without friction
• Using modern coding tools to create internal automations, dashboards, integrations, self-service tooling, and alerts that multiply your own leverage
• Owning the operational side of growing the science organization—interview logistics, leveling consistency, onboarding experience—ensuring new hires are productive from day one
• Partnering with Finance, Legal, Security, and Engineering on systems where science intersects with the rest of the company, keeping interfaces clean as the organization scales
• Translating the team's work into clear, well-timed updates for leadership and adjacent teams
You should have 4+ years in research operations, technical operations, infrastructure program management, or comparable systems-oriented roles. A Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience) is required. You need strong systems thinking, demonstrated ability to build your own tools using modern coding assistants, experience with infrastructure/cloud systems or vendor management at scale, and strong written communication skills.
Ideal candidates have experience in research-heavy or ML/AI organizations, background in platform engineering or SRE with an operational orientation, comfort working across Finance/Legal/Security/People teams, and a track record of turning ambiguous spaces into well-designed, compounding systems.
