Mistral is seeking a Research Engineer for its Robotics team to bridge cutting-edge AI research with real-world robotic applications. The role focuses on deploying and refining state-of-the-art AI models for mobile manipulation on production robots, ensuring systems are theoretically sound, practical, scalable, and effective in dynamic environments.
Key responsibilities include deploying advanced AI models for mobile manipulation on real robots in production settings, architecting and optimizing data pipelines to support training of robotics models on large-scale datasets, and setting up, maintaining, and scaling robot fleets to ensure operational readiness and reliability. You will design and conduct experiments to validate robotic systems in real-world conditions and collaborate with engineers and researchers to refine models and improve overall system performance.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience developing software for real-world robotics applications and mastery of Python with a strong software development background. High engineering competence is essential, with the ability to design complex systems and deploy them in production environments. You should be a self-starter with autonomy to drive projects forward and the adaptability to collaborate effectively across teams.
Required experience includes robotic control frameworks such as ROS, proficiency in sensor integration and actuator control, and knowledge of control theory, machine learning, or computer vision as applied to robotics. Experience with robotics simulators, hardware development, or maintaining large codebases is valued. A proactive approach with focus on delivering results and continuously improving systems is critical.
