Gridware is a San Francisco-based technology company pioneering active grid response (AGR) technology to protect and enhance electrical grid reliability. The company uses high-precision sensors and advanced monitoring platforms to detect potential grid issues early, enabling proactive maintenance and fault mitigation while improving safety and reducing outages. The Research Engineer, Mechanical will join the Physical R&D team to build measurement and validation infrastructure for a new product expanding Gridware's edge grid monitoring and observability platform. This role uniquely blends hands-on experimentation with fleet-scale data analysis. Key responsibilities include: - Analyzing novel measurements collected across Gridware's deployed fleet of grid monitoring devices - Designing and executing physical tests to validate measurement data and understand what those measurements mean in real-world grid conditions - Building tools and workflows that connect experimental validation with fleet data analysis - Developing deep physical intuition for mechanical system behavior to interpret measurement data accurately - Guiding experimental validation approaches and identifying performance limitations - Contributing to the development of the next generation of grid monitoring technology The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, hands-on lab and testing experience, and the ability to move fluidly between theoretical analysis and practical experimentation. You should be comfortable working with physical systems, sensor data, and iterative validation cycles. Experience with grid infrastructure, power systems, or similar critical infrastructure is a plus but not required.
