Antimetal is building the future of infrastructure management by creating AI agents that investigate, resolve, and prevent infrastructure issues. As a Research Engineer, you'll prototype new approaches, run experiments, and own the path from research to production, working closely with platform and product teams to shape agent capabilities.
You'll focus on three core research areas: Infrastructure Intelligence (building models that understand infrastructure behavior, detect anomalies, forecast issues, and analyze telemetry across logs, metrics, events, and traces); Autonomous Agents (developing long-running, parallel agents that detect, diagnose, and remediate infrastructure issues, including code and configuration fixes); and Evaluation (building evaluation methodology, generating synthetic data, and measuring agent performance).
Key responsibilities include running experiments across research areas and shipping successful approaches to production; building evaluation infrastructure including live and offline evaluation pipelines and benchmarks; exploring research directions in AI agents, ML, and SRE; and collaborating across teams to integrate capabilities and productionize prototypes.
You bring 4+ years of applied ML or research engineering experience, preferably at companies shipping production AI systems. You have production experience with agentic/LLM systems including multi-step reasoning, reinforcement learning, fine-tuning, and orchestration. You've demonstrated ability to move work from prototype to production using data and experimentation. You're strong on ML fundamentals (statistical modeling, probabilistic methods, time-series analysis, evaluation methodology) and have real-world expertise in an applied ML area. You can construct and run end-to-end evaluation pipelines with real data, are proficient in Python and TypeScript with common ML libraries, and write highly maintainable, scalable code. You're comfortable with ambiguity, iterative development, and rapid adaptation to feedback.
Bonus qualifications include exposure to interpretability, robustness, or AI safety research; experience with multimodal models; contributions to ML research (open-source, papers, workshops); strong foundations in statistics, optimization, or experimental design; and experience deploying research models to production.
Antimetal offers competitive salary with generous equity, fully covered health/dental/vision and retirement benefits, unlimited PTO, dinner on late nights, fitness stipend, equipment support, and commute perks (Citi Bike + transit). The role is based in-person at their new office in New York.
