Mission Bio is seeking a Research Associate II to join the R&D team in South San Francisco. The role focuses on executing novel custom multi-omics single-cell projects in coordination with Bioinformatics and R&D teams, generating analytical and experimental data for customers across cell and gene therapy, drug development, and biomarker discovery.
Key responsibilities include preparing and culturing human cell lines and primary cells for testing on Mission Bio's Tapestri platform; executing complex experiments including downstream NGS library preparation and sequencing; operating laboratory instruments (automated cell counter, microscope, Bioanalyzer) to evaluate sample quality; performing routine equipment maintenance and database management; troubleshooting protocols and optimizing workflows; preparing and updating written protocols; presenting experimental results to managers and cross-functional teams; managing multiple concurrent projects while meeting deadlines; and supporting occasional cross-functional collaborative experiments.
The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field, with at least 2 years of hands-on laboratory experience (industry experience preferred). Strong technical skills in analytical, molecular, and cellular biology techniques are essential—examples include PCR, real-time PCR, NGS library prep, fluorescence microscopy, and cell culture. Single-cell and NGS experience is strongly preferred. The role requires demonstrated problem-solving abilities, adaptability in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high data quality, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication with cross-functional teams.
The position reports to the R&D Team Lead and is performed primarily in a laboratory setting, requiring adherence to strict safety protocols, use of PPE, and the ability to safely handle hazardous materials including cell and tissue specimens. Regular physical exertion (standing, bending, reaching) and fine manual dexterity are required.
