Salary: USD 50,000 - 65,000 / annual
Tempus is building a laboratory team focused on precision medicine and genomic data interpretation in clinical settings. This Research Associate I role is central to developing state-of-the-art techniques for creating, processing, and interpreting vast amounts of genomic and molecular data to deliver actionable insights to physicians.
You will maintain cell culture and organoid models of human disease, perform routine testing, quality control, calibration, maintenance, and proficiency testing in accordance with current laboratory procedures. Your responsibilities include performing complex molecular-based procedures with high quality and in accordance with established protocols.
Key duties include routine molecular biology tasks such as nucleic acid extraction, DNA/RNA quantification and qualification, NGS library preparation, transfection, molecular cloning, agarose and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, Western blot analysis, and RT-qPCR. You will sterilize laboratory equipment and workspaces as assigned, maintain consistently high biosafety standards, and obtain 12 continuing education hours in oncology or molecular biology. You must maintain competency to perform all assigned molecular biology protocols in accordance with CAP, CLIA, and NYSDOH regulations.
Requirements:
Must have one of the following:
- MS in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, chemical, physical or biological science AND 2 years of pertinent clinical or biomedical laboratory experience with molecular biology
- BS in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, chemical, physical or biological science AND 3 years of pertinent clinical or biomedical lab experience in molecular biology
- Excellent communication skills
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work with others to plan and carry out scientific programs and experiments
- Self-driven and works well in an interdisciplinary team with minimal direction
- Strong desire to build products that will save lives and change the course of cancer
- Impeccable attention to detail
Highly Desirable:
- Experience with organoid culture
- Experience designing and optimizing new assays
- Experience with next-generation sequencing
- Work in a CLIA/CAP high-complexity laboratory
- Knowledge of LIMS platforms and various computer systems
