Salary: USD 142,000 - 200,000 / annual
Lightmatter is a venture-backed AI infrastructure company that invented the world's first 3D-stacked photonics engine (Passage™) for next-generation data centers. The company recently raised $400M in Series D funding at a $4.4B valuation and is scaling rapidly across all departments.
As a Reliability Engineer (Hardware), you will own the design, execution, and analysis of reliability tests to verify product performance, durability, and compliance with industry standards. You'll be responsible for ensuring Lightmatter's photonics-based AI platform and photonics chiplet communication fabric products meet or exceed reliability requirements throughout their lifecycle.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop comprehensive reliability test plans aligned with product requirements, industry standards, and customer expectations
- Execute reliability qualification testing for highly integrated photonics products
- Conduct Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify and mitigate potential reliability risks in design and manufacturing
- Perform detailed root cause analysis of device failures and collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and improve designs
- Establish internal reliability guidelines and standards
- Utilize statistical analysis tools (Weibull analysis, Minitab, JMP) to model reliability performance and predict device lifetimes
- Prepare and present detailed technical reports to internal and external stakeholders
You'll need a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar field, plus 5+ years of industry experience as a Reliability Engineer in semiconductor and/or photonics. Required expertise includes device and package reliability testing methodologies (HTOL, HAST, TDDB, HTHH, TC), failure analysis tools (SEM, TEM, FIB, EMMI), device physics, and packaging failure mechanisms. Familiarity with reliability modeling tools and statistical analysis is essential.
Preferred qualifications include semiconductor or photonics device/module testing experience, advanced packaging technologies (flip-chip, wafer-level packaging, 3D integration), strong statistical data analysis skills, and excellent communication abilities. A PhD in a related field with at least 1 year of reliability engineering experience is a plus.
