Octopus Centre for Heating Technology, the hardware division of Octopus Energy Group (a leading UK energy supplier), is seeking an R&D Manager to lead the team developing next-generation air source heat pump technology. Based in Portadown, Northern Ireland, you will own the full product development lifecycle—from initial design through testing, compliance, and productionization.
In this senior, hands-on leadership role, you will set the technical direction for the R&D function, manage a team of engineers and technicians, and collaborate closely with product, commercial, and manufacturing teams to accelerate time-to-market for new heat pump solutions. You'll drive the transition to greener, cheaper energy by developing innovative in-home heating technologies deployed across the UK and beyond.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and mentoring an engineering and technical team
- Owning the complete R&D development process and technical roadmap
- Ensuring products meet regulatory compliance and manufacturing requirements
- Cross-functional collaboration with product, commercial, and operations teams
- Translating market needs and technical constraints into viable product designs
