Gong is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the R&D effort around AI agentic frameworks—the foundational infrastructure that enables all engineering teams to build, deploy, and operate AI agents safely in production. You will lead a team of 3–4 senior engineers and spend roughly 50% of your time hands-on architecting core systems and reviewing code, and 50% managing the team, mentoring engineers, and aligning with cross-functional stakeholders.
You'll own the design and implementation of Gong's internal agentic framework, leveraging industry-standard tools such as LangChain, LangSmith, and ADK. This includes building evaluation frameworks and workflows for AI agents (offline and online evaluations, quality metrics, regression detection, experimentation infrastructure), providing robust observability capabilities (tracing, logging, monitoring, cost tracking, safety guardrails), and creating developer enablement platforms (APIs, SDKs, abstractions) that allow product teams to easily build, test, and operate agents while adhering to platform standards.
Key technical challenges include managing agent execution, tool usage, memory, workflows, and failure modes in production-grade systems; ensuring agents remain observable, debuggable, and safe as usage scales; detecting quality regressions and model behavior changes through robust evaluation and monitoring; and balancing flexibility with guardrails so teams can innovate quickly without compromising reliability, security, or cost controls. You'll also design integrations and tooling across Python and Java to enable seamless adoption of the AI framework within Gong's broader backend ecosystem.
Your impact will be company-wide: empowering every engineering team at Gong to build agent-based solutions faster with higher quality and confidence, establishing the core frameworks and observability standards that all AI agents rely on, and raising the bar for how AI systems are evaluated, monitored, and governed across the company.
