K2 Space is building the largest and highest-power satellites ever flown, backed by over $1 billion in funding from leading investors. The company is mass-producing advanced satellite platforms for commercial and US government customers, with multiple launches planned for 2027 and scaling to 100 satellites annually.
As a Radiation Effects Engineer, you will play a critical role in qualifying, implementing, and ensuring the reliability of satellite avionics hardware in intense radiation environments. You will own the rapid development of component, board, and subsystem-level radiation test setups, executing tests at national laboratories across the country. Your work will directly inform hardware designers and mission planners on how to confidently operate satellites for commercial, national security, and science customers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Execute comprehensive radiation test campaigns (SEE, TID, DDD, and materials testing) by coordinating test facilities, designing electrical test setups, writing procedures, executing tests, and documenting results
- Design, fabricate, and assemble production-quality test racks, test PCBAs, and cable harnesses
- Troubleshoot, repair, and modify electronic components, assemblies, and systems
- Perform tests and checkouts using standard lab equipment (power supplies, oscilloscopes, DMMs, logic analyzers, DAQs)
- Develop test automation, data collection, and analysis scripts in Python
- Grow team capabilities through test rack and automation development to support business scaling
You will demonstrate excellent test engineering fundamentals and meticulous attention to detail. Prior radiation effects testing experience is preferred but not required; strong electrical lab skills and willingness to learn are essential.
