Salary: USD 140,000 - 182,000 / annual

Infleqtion is seeking a Quantum Software Engineer to conduct R&D on quantum optimization algorithms applied to energy grid optimization problems. This role bridges theoretical quantum computing and practical energy infrastructure challenges. Key responsibilities include: - Conducting R&D on quantum algorithms (QAOA, IQP circuits, quantum annealing) for energy grid optimization applications - Writing and testing code to implement quantum algorithms, with focus on energy grid problems like unit commitment and N-k contingency analysis - Collaborating with experimental physicists and software engineers to translate theory into implementation - Optimizing quantum circuits including mapping, routing, and gate decomposition - Running quantum circuits on quantum hardware and analyzing results from both noiseless and noisy simulations - Contributing to government and commercial energy grid optimization proposals - Publishing research findings and presenting at scientific conferences - Providing technical guidance to team members in a collaborative research environment - Staying current with developments in quantum algorithms and energy grid optimization Required qualifications: - BS or MS in Computer Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or related field - High proficiency in Python (or C++/Julia with ability to rapidly upskill) - Hands-on experience with quantum algorithms for optimization (QAOA, IQP, quantum annealing) - Knowledge of quantum error correction and partial error correction techniques - Familiarity with energy grid optimization concepts - Experience optimizing quantum circuits and working with quantum hardware - Proficiency with open-source quantum frameworks (Cirq, Qiskit) - Strong communication and collaboration skills - Ability to work in-office 3 days per week; up to 10% domestic/international travel Preferred qualifications include PhD in quantum computation or related field, experience with advanced frameworks like Stim, backend development (FastAPI, PostgreSQL), cloud platforms (GCP, AWS), CI/CD practices, security best practices, and front-end development experience. This is a highly technical role ideal for someone passionate about solving complex quantum computing problems with real-world energy infrastructure applications.
