Neros Technologies is a defense technology company focused on designing and manufacturing high-performance unmanned systems (drones) at scale. The company emphasizes rapid iteration, combat-tested designs, and startup-speed execution within a defense context.
As a Quality Engineer for Electro-Mechanical Assembly, you will own day-to-day build quality across the factory floor, serving as the primary point of contact for any assembly or integration issues that arise during production. Your responsibilities span the full manufacturing chain—from component-level work (motors, harnesses, mechanisms) through final vehicle assembly.
Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as first responder to quality issues on the production line: dispositioning defects, containing suspect product, and running Material Review Board (MRB) meetings for electro-mechanical nonconformances
- Leading root cause investigations on defects in partnership with engineering teams, and verifying that corrective actions hold on the line
- Tracking and analyzing line metrics (First Pass Yield, defect Pareto charts, scrap/rework rates, escapes) and using Statistical Process Control (SPC) to identify drift before failures occur
- Conducting regular build quality reviews focused on defect trends and driving closure on top issues
- Partnering with manufacturing and engineering to implement in-line checks and error-proofing measures based on data
- Driving Design for Quality (DFQ) by feeding defect data and inspection findings back to engineering to improve manufacturability
- Creating and maintaining inspection plans and First Article Inspections (FAI) for new builds, design revisions, and process changes
- Reviewing work instructions and inspection criteria to ensure requirements are clear, objective, and verifiable
- Certifying inspectors and operators to workmanship standards; owning and auditing the measurement and calibration program (gauges, torque tools, Gage R&R) across the factory
This is a hands-on role in a fast-moving production environment where you'll directly impact the quality and reliability of systems deployed in contested environments.
**Requirements:**
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or aerospace engineering
- 2+ years of experience in a quality, manufacturing, reliability, or design engineering role focused on electro-mechanical hardware
- Hands-on experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and metrology tools (calipers, height gauges, CMM, visual inspection)
- Demonstrated experience with electro-mechanical assembly processes including fastening/torque control, thread locking, connector mating, harness routing and strain relief, potting, staking, and adhesive bonding, plus knowledge of their common defect modes
- Proficiency in SQL and Python, including the ability to query production databases and analyze manufacturing and test data
**Nice to have:**
- Experience supporting high-volume production of electro-mechanical systems (drones, robotics, automotive, consumer hardware), ideally during a production ramp
- Knowledge of RCCA and structured problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5 Whys, fishbone), PFMEA, control plans, FAI (AS9102 or similar), and SPC
- Strong working knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards for cable, harness, and connector workmanship
- Familiarity with brushless motors (bearings, balancing, winding, lead termination, failure modes)
- Understanding of vibration, shock, and thermal effects on assembled hardware and how to design inspections and screens
- Hands-on comfort with multimeters, power supplies, and basic motor/continuity testing
- Familiarity with composites, machining, injection molding, and additive manufacturing processes and their defect modes
- Experience with ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality systems in defense or aerospace environments
- Familiarity with drones, RC aircraft, or FPV hardware (especially hands-on building and troubleshooting experience)
