Salary: USD 72,000 - 100,000 / annual
Velo3D is seeking a Quality Engineer to oversee qualification and maintenance of laser powder bed fusion metal 3D printers and manage RPS printed part production quality. This role operates at the intersection of manufacturing, supply chain, and field service, requiring both independent work and cross-functional collaboration under Quality management supervision.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conduct in-process inspection activities and maintain an inspect-diagnose-repair mindset
- Drive CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action) activities to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
- Monitor production quality trends via dashboards and line occurrences; rapidly communicate emerging issues
- Execute timely corrective actions for quality mitigation and containment
- Collaborate with engineering teams on investigation and resolution of strategic quality issues
- Audit manufacturing lines against released processes and procedures
- Assist in identification and resolution of manufacturing quality issues; sort and contain parts as needed
- Participate in continuous improvement activities with manufacturing teams and external suppliers
- Support FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) activities to identify and mitigate design and manufacturing risks
- Analyze and disposition product nonconformances as a Material Review Board member
- Analyze and interpret data independently; anticipate problems and take preventative action
- Support supplier continuous improvement plans
- Maintain quality performance metrics and drive issues to root cause solutions
Work environment includes both office and manufacturing floor settings, with potential exposure to hazardous materials and stressful situations. Physical demands include ability to lift and sort parts up to 30 pounds.
REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university
- Minimum 1–5 years of experience with industry standards including ISO 9001 and AS9100
- Experience processing CAPAs, NCRs, and extensive problem-solving and root cause analysis
- Experience reading and interpreting mechanical drawings
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma practices, 5S, TPS, TQM
- Strong commitment to positive, high-paced, results-oriented work environment
- Strong desire to work on disruptive technologies; high tolerance for ambiguity
- Creativity in problem-solving; ability to quantify problems and develop analytical solutions; proficiency in data-driven decision-making
- Disciplined approach and thought process
- Team-oriented and self-directed with high accountability
- Experience within quality systems in medium/high-volume manufacturing environments
- Detail-oriented with strong record-keeping and organizational skills
- Ability to use technological tools and business system applications to manage, synthesize, and interpret data
Preferred:
- Experience with ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO/TS 16949, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, DFMEA, PFMEA
- Strong aptitude for electronic test and measurement systems
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
