AscendArc is a seed-stage aerospace startup developing revolutionary satellite communications systems. As a Prototype and Build Engineer, you will be an early member of the Manufacturing team, responsible for bringing spacecraft designs from concept to flight-ready hardware. You will lead the prototyping, machining, and fabrication of spacecraft assemblies and parts, working across mechanical, composite, and electromechanical systems. Your responsibilities include supporting manufacturing and assembly of both flight and qualification hardware, contributing to production planning and tooling design, and solving hands-on engineering problems to deliver precise hardware on schedule. This role requires expert mechanical aptitude and precision fabrication skills. You should have strong experience with CNC programming, machining, and general shop tools, with demonstrated proficiency in prototype construction using metals, composites, and fabricated materials. Working knowledge of CAM, CAD, and metrology tools is essential, along with familiarity with manufacturing documentation and process control. You will work independently with minimal oversight while maintaining good communication across engineering and production teams. The ideal candidate is proactive and resourceful, able to anticipate build issues and propose solutions. You should be comfortable iterating designs, troubleshooting builds, and assisting with operational and maintenance tasks that keep the shop running efficiently. Physical requirements include the ability to lift 25 lbs and perform work requiring standing or manual handling. This is a full-time, in-office position in Beaverton, Oregon.
