The Exploration Company is developing Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle designed for cargo transport and eventual human missions, along with advanced propulsion systems. As a Propulsion Test Engineer, you will lead the testing and analysis of propulsion systems across engine and component levels.
Your responsibilities include preparing and executing comprehensive tests to evaluate hardware performance, developing detailed test plans aligned with project requirements and timelines, and leading daily test operations. You will autonomously conduct risk assessment analyses and define mitigation strategies to ensure personnel and hardware safety during all test campaigns. A key part of your role involves interpreting P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) and generating test sequences that balance test needs with bench and article constraints.
You will collaborate closely with development engineers, test bench teams, AIT (Assembly, Integration, and Test) teams, and external partners to support test operations on both internal and external facilities. You'll support rapid test data processing with component development engineers to guide ongoing and future test campaigns, and continuously define, develop, and update test procedures to improve operations. Technical documentation is a core responsibility, including detailed procedures, test reports, design reviews, and performance analyses.
The ideal candidate holds a bachelor's degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering (master's or PhD preferred) with 2+ years of propulsion testing or related experience. You should have strong proficiency in propulsion chemistry, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics, with proven hands-on engine testing experience. Background in cryogenic propulsion is highly valued. Familiarity with propulsion testing tools (CEA, CANTERA), Python programming, and CAD software (Siemens NX, CATIA) is advantageous. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, communication, and leadership skills are essential.
