Relativity Space is developing the Terran R rocket vehicle to deliver payloads to orbit. The Propulsion team is responsible for designing, developing, and qualifying high-performance engines for this vehicle.
As a Propulsion Engineer II focused on Engine Systems & Test, you will drive engine system architecture and concept-of-operations trades, manage engine interfaces, and negotiate requirements to optimize performance across the vehicle. Your responsibilities span the full lifecycle of propulsion components—from initial design through production, qualification, and flight. You will support engine system analysis, simulation, testing, and tool development as needed.
This is a hands-on technical role requiring deep expertise in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics. You will lead collaborative projects with minimal oversight, working across propulsion, manufacturing, software, and avionics teams. You are expected to bring strong technical acumen to system-level problems, not just coordinate between teams. The role involves approximately 15% travel to test and launch sites, with occasional shifted schedules or weekend work during critical milestones.
The Propulsion team fosters a culture of bottoms-up decision-making and ownership at all levels. You will have autonomy to shape decisions and see your work directly impact a fast-growing aerospace company. The team is currently advancing the flight configuration through qualification while exploring modifications for future engines, including thrust upgrades, new cycles, and design for mass production.
