Relativity Space is developing the Terran R rocket vehicle to deliver payloads to orbit. As a Propulsion Engineer II (Responsible Engineer), you will own combustion device components from initial design through manufacturing, testing, qualification, and flight—a rare end-to-end ownership model in aerospace. Combustion devices are among the most thermally and structurally critical engine components, operating under extreme temperatures and pressures. You will coordinate across disciplines (thermal, structural, fluids) and maintain direct accountability for hardware decisions throughout the product lifecycle.
The Propulsion team fosters a culture of bottoms-up decision-making and technical ownership at all levels. Engineers are responsible for the entire lifecycle of their parts, from concept through production. The team is currently advancing the flight configuration toward qualification while exploring modifications for future engines, including thrust upgrades, new cycles, and design for mass production.
You will apply engineering fundamentals in thermodynamics, thermal analysis, structural mechanics, and fluid dynamics. This role requires 2+ years of experience developing propulsion or combustion components and hardware. Preferred qualifications include rocket engine development/test environment experience, demonstrated ownership from school or work, and working knowledge of engine subsystems such as combustion devices, heat exchangers, and ducting. A Bachelor's degree in science or engineering is required.
